Autumn time again in Six Streets and with the season of mists and mellow fruitfulness comes fallen leaves and crab apples on some of our streets, which soon turn to mush. Some streets are worse than others, depending on the trees.

Wheeldon Avenue residents met with Derby City Council Street Pride this year to agree a joint plan to keep our streets free of decaying vegetation and drains able to drain rainwater away.

Street Pride will give us a rota of their visits – for when the rotating brush machine comes, or manual litter pickers, or when the drain clearance wagon is due a scheduled visit (once every 2 years), we can speak to residents and ask if some cars could be moved from over the drains. Street Pride will also supply us with bin bags every month so if we rake and bag up any leaves/apples and they will collect them the next week.

Some residents would like to meet to do this with neighbours – it was proposed 1st day of every month Sept to March and the 1st Saturday of every month too, anytime between 10 – 11.30am then retire for a coffee in Point Six for those who want to.

Six Streets have applied for Darley Neighbourhood Board funding for large sweeping brushes, leaf grabbers, large dustpans/brushes, available for loan from 112 Kedleston Road and the bin bags will be available by the bins in the front garden.

If you are at a loose end on the 1st, or the first Saturday of each month please work with other Six Streets residents tackling the leaves and apples.

Please put any bags of leaves by the wall at the bottom of Wheeldon Ave and Street Pride will collect and remove.
