Derby Council - Covid Support
Six Streets worked with the council to support people who were shielding, self isolating etc from March onwards. The Community Hub was a place where people who needed support could ring in to be matched with a nearby volunteer. The Hub would then contact individual volunteers or co-ordinators of local group efforts. Six Streets had a huge number of volunteers for the coordinator to call on so many people had their shopping done for them, prescriptions collected, matched up with phone befrienders or had dogs walked.
The council has produced this information of the volunteer efforts across the city - this is very likely to be an underestimate but does give an idea of the huge response of Derby people. The 581 volunteers for example is those active at any one time but doesn’t count all Six Streets volunteers - only those who choose to register individually with the council. Many more were only on the Six Streets list or, indeed, volunteered by directly contacting neighbours.
