Charity Appeal - Thanks

Update: the chair of DRS has collected this weeks’ donations of suitcases and wishes to thank all the donors.

Derbyshire Refugee Solidarity provides aid and support for asylum seekers at St Anne’s church hall.

They help asylum seekers who are housed in and around Derby improve their English, learn more about British values, the city and the surrounding countryside through group bike rides & also take part in creative and practical activities like allotmenting, music, bike repairs and artwork as well as regular football matches.

Suitcases are always needed as the Home Office transfers asylum applicants from one hotel to another. Asylum seekers receive very little cash from the government so looking after their belongings is a priority.

If you have luggage that you do not need then please consider donating it to DRS. It does not have to be in perfect condition or be particularly modern. The volunteers and asylum seekers can work to repair any defects.

St Anne’s Church Hall is open from 9.30 to 12.30 on Thursdays and Saturdays for luggage donations. Or you could drop your case into the porch of 54 Wheeldon Ave at any time if that is more convenient.
